Eat Halal Milwaukee

The main goal of Eat Halal Milwaukee is to diversify the halal cuisine offered in the great city of Milwaukee. We do this is by reaching out to local restaurants and asking them to switch to halal vendors to accommodate to the growing Muslim community. Whether they stay halal for a short period of time or permanently, it’s a win for our tummies!

What is halal?

Halal translates to the word “permissible” in English, and in this context is used to describe what foods are permissible by Islamic Law. In order for meat products to be considered halal, they must be slaughtered with the pronouncement of God’s name and in a way that causes minimal suffering to the animal. It also entails that no pork or pork derived products, as well as alcohol, is found in the food served.

How do we ensure restaurants serve halal products?

All of the restaurants we work with use halal certified meat products. This means that they derive their meat products from a distributer that is in full compliance with Islamic Law, and that has not come in contact with anything considered forbidden or impure. Restaurants are also taught to prepare dishes in a way that ensures no cross contamination from pork products, alcohol products, and other non-halal products.

A thorough process is completed for each restaurant we choose to work with that confirms that products used are halal certified and that they are both prepared and served in a halal manner.

Where I grew up, halal food was everywhere. It’s so nice we finally have something like this here in Milwaukee!
